The Alternate Pathway is offered periodically, at the Board’s discretion, as a pathway to Certification for those who may not meet the formal educational requirements (residency), but who have at least 15 years of continuous full-time experience in the practice of dental public health following completion of the specialty advanced graduate education preparation.  The current Alternate Pathway opportunity will expire following the 2024 application cycle.

Continuous full-time experience in the practice of dental public health must have occurred after advanced graduate educational preparation. Dental public health practice concurrent with the advanced graduate educational preparation will not be considered.

Applications for the Alternate Pathway are due by September 1 of the year prior to the year the candidate wishes to challenge the Qualifying Examination.  If a candidate is deemed Board Eligible, they will then be eligible to apply for the Qualifying Examination.
