Diplomate's Guide

Information for Diplomates is now available in a stand-alone Diplomate's Guide.  Previously, this information was provided in a combined document that also included instructions for candidate's applying for Board certification. No changes to testing policies are introduced in this new stand-alone guide for Diplomates. The Board encourages Diplomates to read this guide thoroughly. The Board reviews and updates the Guide annually. The Board reserves the right to update fee structures, content, and procedures each year.

Annual Registration Fees

Diplomates are required to register with ABDPH annually.  Please log into your account and pay your Annual Registration Fee for 2025 by January 31, 2025.  Registrations paid after January 31 are subject to a $75 reinstatement fee.

Certification Maintenance

The American Board of Dental Public Health (ABDPH) recognizes that continued competency in the specialty requires life-long learning to enrich past educational and training experiences. To foster this goal, the ABDPH has implemented a recertification program for its Diplomates. The objective of the recertification process is to assure that Diplomates maintain the highest level of competency to address public health problems. Under this program, all Diplomates who were certified in 2000 or after are certified for ten (10) years, and are required to re-certify every ten years thereafter. This program is voluntary for those individuals who were certified as Diplomates of the ABDPH before January 1, 2000, however, the ABDPH strongly urges all Diplomates to participate. The voluntary approach recognizes the previously established rights of certified Diplomates, but still promotes the attainment of continuing competency for all Diplomates in Dental Public Health.

Please review information on Recertification in the Diplomate's Guide

This tracking document can be downloaded at anytime and updated with the years that are specific to each individual's recertification cycle.  Please upload a copy of the tracking document when submitting your online application for Recertification.

Recertification applications are due by June 30, 2025 for Diplomates originally certified in 2005 and 2015.
